#2: Newness

The substrate of this continent is a thick layer of thriving, jubilant, powerful green living matter. In this part of the world the biosphere feels like it has the upper hand over human’s attempts at urbanism, and the thin lines of infrastructure and kernels of towns that I saw out the plane window last night still feel new, as if the workers just finished in the morning hours.  Because nature has a way of encroaching so quickly in this warm, humid, and nurtrient rich setting, things are also very clean. I saw at least twenty people cleaning constantly in the Rio airport all through the night (on my twelve hour layover, enjoying pao de queijo and cafezinho in the wee hours) and there was not a scrap of litter to be found in, on, or around the place.
